Ohio Rolls Past Pennsylvania in Big 33 Classic

Ohio ran its win streak in the Big 33 Classic to three straight in Hershey Saturday night.

The Buckeye State stars routed the Keystone Staters 50-14 behind MVP Akise Teague of Youngstown Ursuline High School.  Teague, who will play his college ball at the University of Cincinnati, had 168 yards in total offense, averaging 16.8 yards per touch. 

Teague scored two first quarter rushing touchdowns and then caught a 40-yard touchdown pass in the third.

The 50 points was the most scored by an opponent against the PA stars in the 54th Big 33 Classic.

South Wins Ohio North-South Classic

I don't know whether to call it the end of 2010 or the start of 2011, but high school football was in the air Friday in Columbus.

It was the 66th annual Ohio North-South Classic all-star football game...and in the end for the seniors ending their high school football careers, it was the South players that walked off the field with a victory.

The South beat the North stars 25-7 for its second straight win in the series.  The North still leads the all-time series 38-25 with three ties.

Akron-bound Tyler Williams of Colerain High School scored two touchdowns to win the South MVP award.  Westerville South running back Jayshon Jackson, who was the North's MVP, was the game's leading rusher with 115 yards on 13 carriers.

Madison HS Football Coach Resigns

After two seasons as the Madison High head football coach, Joe Snively has resigned.

Last season the Mohawks were 4-6.  In two years, Snively's record was 7-13.

Oakwood HS Names New Head Football Coach

Rick Robertson has left Springfield High School for the head coaching job at Oakwood.

Robertson takes over for Paul Stone, who led the program for the last three years.  Stone's record was 14-18.

Ohio Says No to Spring High School Football Practice

The Ohio High School Athletic Association has voted unanimously against allowing spring football practice in the Buckeye State.

The proposal sought to add a two-week spring football practice timetable during the last two weeks of May.  It would have given teams 10 hours of field time that was broken down into two weeks of one hour practices or one week of two hour practice sessions.

There is a chance that the OHSAA may reconsider the idea at a later date.

Ohio, along with California, Florida, Georgia and Texas, is one of the top five states producing Division I talent, however, Ohio is the only state without spring practices.
